Conducting Course

Study the art of opera conducting
with opera singers and full professional orchestra in Vienna/Austria and Szombathely/Hungary                                                    

Time table:
July 30 – August 2: preparation work with piano, in Vienna
August 3 – 6: work with singers and piano, in Vienna
August 7 – 8: work with full orchestra and singers, in Szombathely

Guaranteed time with the orchestra for each candidate: 60 minutes. You will conduct the entire course program with orchestra and singers

Course tutor: Wolfgang Harrer
The Viennese Wolfgang Harrer is not only an experienced concert and opera conductor, but also knows the problems of conducting from the angle of an orchestra musician which he has been for eighteen years. During this time he had had the opportunity to study the merits and shortcomings of many conductors. Observations like these as well as his own experience as a conductor and his work as a pedagogue are the prerequisites to teaching conducting.

Application fee: 50 €

Participation fee: active 950 €, passiv 150 €

There is no age limit for the participants. The course will be activated with a number of ten qualified students.

Course languages: English, German, Italian

Applicants of varying levels of training and experience will be considered. In order to profit of the course in the best way you should understand all lyrics of the pieces in their original language. You should be able to sing all singer´s parts. It is helpful but not a condition that you could sketch the program on the piano.

The course is organized by the non-profit organization „Wiener-Krakauer Kultur-Gesellschaft“ located in Vienna.

You will be notified about acceptance by June 5, 2019
The final payment of 950 € for active participants must be made by June 12, 2019
Passive applicants can apply any time
